GitLife Biotech and Evolutor Secure Innovate UK Grant to Advance Traceable Industrial Biotechnology

GitLife Biotech and Evolutor are pleased to announce that they have received Innovate UK funding to collaborate on the development of next-generation DNA barcoding systems for industrial biotechnology. This project brings together GitLife’s Genosignature® technology and Evolutor’s Accelerated Evolution Platform to ensure that microbial strains can be securely tracked and verified from laboratory research through to large-scale industrial fermentation.

Engineering Trust in the Future of Biomanufacturing

As biotechnology moves toward industrial-scale production, the ability to track and validate engineered strains becomes critical. GitLife’s Genosignature platform integrates cryptographically secure, biologically orthogonal barcodes that enable immutable proof of strain identity and origin—without disrupting microbial performance.

Through this collaboration, the partners will validate error-tolerant, evolution-resistant barcodes under real-world industrial conditions, including adaptive laboratory evolution and commercial scale bioreactor fermentation.

“This project marks a major step forward in securing biological assets for industrial biotechnology,” said Beatrix Ellis, CEO of GitLife Biotech. “Working with Evolutor allows us to prove our technology in high-performance, evolution-driven environments—ensuring genetic integrity and IP protection at scale.”

Evolving with Confidence

Evolutor develops high-performance microbes for sustainable biomanufacturing, maximizing strain performance holistically across traits including production titre, growth rate and waste stream valorization. Their Accelerated Evolution Platform enables rapid strain improvement by applying unique molecular influences to adaptive laboratory evolution (ALE). By integrating GitLife’s Genosignature system, Evolutor gains a secure, validated method to track strain provenance and safeguard microbial IP without compromising performance or productivity.

“Traceability and trust are essential for scaling sustainable biomanufacturing,” said Joe Price, CEO of Evolutor. “This collaboration ensures that our evolved strains remain both high-performing and verifiable—a foundation for responsible innovation in industrial biotechnology.”

Setting the Stage for Growth

For GitLife Biotech, the Innovate UK award validates the commercial readiness of its genetic barcoding platform and strengthens its position as the leader in biological rights management. The results of this project will form the cornerstone for GitLife’s Seed round raise in Q1 2026, accelerating its mission to make biosecurity and traceability the standard across synthetic biology.
